Bus fares to go up again

On Friday, March 16, the Public Services Regulatory Authority (ARESEP) will publish a proposal to increase fares on 696 bus routes.

The proposal will cover 3,500 new rates calculated according to a new automatic procedure. It would take into consideration the prices of tires, gas, spare parts and insurance (among other things), but it would eliminate variations in the exchange rate as one of the variables.

Current period calculation could mean a 13.8% average increase, which could be applied next April.

Friday’s proposal will also be a call for public consultation and will indicate the time period for citizens and companies to present opposition.

ARESEP is currently digitizing the fare list so it can be accessed via the website: www.aresep.go.cr.
