Deadline to pay marchamo ends at midnight Monday

The deadline to pay the year-end auto registration fee and obligatory insurance known as the “marchamo” is Monday, Dec. 31 at midnight, and some 235,000 drivers have not paid, according to the National Insurance Institute (INS).

A report from INS Monday morning indicates that 895,115 motorists have already paid the marchamo, or 85 percent of total drivers.

Motorists who fail to pay before the deadline face a ₡47,000 ($94) fine and removal of their license plates. They also will have to pay interest.

Marchamo payments can be made at INS offices, bank branches and websites.

To find out much you owe, see the INS website at: http://marchamo.ins-cr.com/Marchamo/Marchamo/Default.aspx
