Costa Rica beats Scotland 1-0 in friendly match

Costa Rica’s National Men’s Football Team, better known as La Sele, defeated Scotland 1-0 this Friday in Glasgow during the team’s first rehearsal of the year for the 2018 Russia World Cup.

Striker Marco Ureña scored the winning goal by converting a pass from the left wing in the 13th minute, but the Ticos demonstrated organized and efficient play throughout the first half of the game and part of the second half, when coach Oscar Ramírez began making changes.

See Ureña’s goal here:

Ramírez sent to the field a team that seems to be the basis of what he’ll use in Russia, including some veterans from the 2014 Brazil World Cup, when Costa Rica surprised the world.

Scotland had its strongest moments when it showed off quick passes in the midfield between Tom Cairney, Oliver McBurnie and Kevin McDonald.

The 1-0 victory brought up sweet memories for Ticos: Scotland was the first team in history to be defeated by Costa Rica in the 1990 World Cup. Watch Juan Cayaso’s historic goal with famed sportscaster Mario Mcgregor’s impeccable narration here.
