Jewelry retailer Pandora has closed all five of its stores in Costa Rica, leaving customers wondering whether the popular Danish brand plans to reopen or leave the country altogether. The closures affect locations at Multiplaza Escazú, Multiplaza Curridabat, Lincoln Plaza, City Mall in Alajuela and OxÃgeno in Heredia. All five remain closed to shoppers, and the company has not announced when, or if, they will reopen.
The situation first came to light in late September, when customers found the stores unexpectedly closed. At the time, employees were reportedly still working inside some locations despite the doors being shut to the public. By yesterday, the situation appeared more serious as some locations had already lost their Pandora signs, posters and other branding.
It has been separately confirmed that the Lincoln Plaza location remained closed, with its windows covered, although the Pandora sign was still in place. The biggest question is whether these closures are temporary or signal the end of Pandora’s retail operations in Costa Rica. For now, the company isn’t saying.
When Pandora was contacted for clarification, Andrés Fasani, the company’s senior public relations manager, declined to comment on the situation. Pandora has not publicly explained why its Costa Rican stores closed, whether the decision involves its local franchise operator or whether the brand intends to return under a different business arrangement.
The closures are particularly noticeable because Pandora occupied storefronts in several of the busiest shopping centers. The company is best known for its customizable charm bracelets, along with rings, necklaces and earrings that are popular as gifts. For shoppers, the immediate concern goes beyond finding another place to buy jewelry. Customers who recently purchased Pandora products may also have questions about exchanges, repairs and warranty claims.
There has been no confirmed announcement explaining how those services will be handled in Costa Rica while the stores remain closed. Anyone with an outstanding purchase or warranty issue should keep their receipts and contact the company through its official customer service channels.
Pandora opened its most recent Costa Rican location at OxÃgeno in 2019, expanding a retail presence that had become familiar to shoppers in the Greater San José area. Founded in Copenhagen in 1982, Pandora has grown into one of the world’s best-known jewelry brands, selling its products through thousands of stores and other retail outlets internationally.
The closures in Costa Rica do not necessarily mean that Pandora products will disappear from here. The company could eventually reopen stores, appoint another local operator or use different sales channels. However, none of those possibilities has been confirmed. For now, customers looking for a Pandora store at one of Costa Rica’s major shopping malls will find the doors closed, with no official word on what happens next.
