SAN FRANCISCO, California — Apple unveiled on Monday a new subscription service, simply called "Apple Music," to compete with Spotify, Pandora and other services that are quickly redefining how consumers buy and listen to music.
Labels are pushing to get a larger chunk of revenue than they receive under their current deals with Spotify, a competing streaming service, people familiar with the negotiations said. Both sides want to complete a deal before Apple's June 8 annual event in San Francisco for more than 5,000 developers.
NEW YORK – Apple on Monday reported a 33-percent rise in its quarterly profit, lifted by robust sales of its iPhones and a jump in revenue from China. The California tech giant said profit rose to $13.6 billion, lifted by sales of 61 million iPhones in the first three months of the year.
