Police rescue injured dolphin from beach in Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula

Though record-breaking cocaine seizures have been keeping law enforcement busy lately, a police unit in Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula, on the southern Pacific coast, found time to help rescue a beached dolphin from the shores of Playa Hermosa.

Police received a call from residents in the area Monday morning that a dolphin had washed ashore. Once on the scene, officials attempted to carry the dolphin back into the water, but it returned to the beach minutes later. Police then wrapped the dolphin and transported it to Fundación Keto, a nonprofit dolphin-care organization.

The dolphin will stay under the foundation’s supervision until it can return to the ocean.
