Tamarindo Group Begins Adopt-a-Park Program

For people interested in helping preserve Tamarindo s green spaces, the northwest Pacific beach community s Improvement Association is offering a new opportunity: Adopt-a-Park.

Through the new program, recently announced by the association, groups of two to eight people can apply to adopt any of the town s public areas, including parks, other green zones and beach accesses.

Each group must have a CEO, a treasurer and a secretary to document the group s work, according to a statement from the organization.

Groups can request a specific area or be assigned one.

When the association, which was granted responsibility to maintain the town s public zones through a 2001 agreement with the Municipal Council of Santa Cruz, approves a group to adopt a zone, that group s responsibilities include paying for a topographical survey of the area if necessary, surrounding it with cement posts and installing a metal sign, cleaning it, and creating a plan for the area, if the association approves. Plans could include building a playground, creating an open-air sports facility, or launching reforestation efforts, depending on the specific zoning for each area, the statement said.

For more information on the program, contact the association at 653-0124. The statement said each group s secretary will post information about the group s efforts at www.tamarindocommunity.org, but that page appears to be under construction.
