Coonatramar, the company that operates the ferry between the Central Pacific port city of Puntarenas and Playa Naranjo on the Nicoya Peninsula, will increase its rates this week by an average of 28 percent, a Transportation Ministry statement said.
The cost for a one-way trip will increase from ₡1,850 to ₡2,200 ($3.66 to $4.35) for motorcycles; from ₡6,050 to ₡7,500 ($12 to $15) for cars; from ₡8,950 to ₡11,500 ($17.70 to $22.70) for light-duty vehicles; and from ₡11,950 to ₡15,500 ($24 to $31) for four-axle vehicles.
Passenger rates will remain the same for adults and children (₡860 and ₡515, or $1.70 and $1, respectively).
Ferries depart Puntarenas for Playa Naranjo daily at 6:30 a.m, 10 a.m., 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and make the return trip at 8 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
