Vehicle restrictions will go back into effect Monday after a two-week break during mid-year vacations.
Beginning Monday, drivers with license plate numbers that end in 1 or 2 are restricted from driving in downtown San José on Mondays, while the same applies for vehicles with plates ending in 3 and 4 on Tuesdays, 5 and 6 on Wednesdays, 7 and 8 on Thursdays, and 9 and 0 on Fridays.
If drivers are found in violation of the restriction, which is in effect from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., they are subject to a fine of ₡41,098 ($82). The fines were established by the Transport and Public Works Ministry (MOPT) in 2008 to reduce city traffic and use of fuel.
