Oh, baby: Costa Rican population hits 5 million

Costa Rica’s population officially hit the 5,000,000 mark last night, although the exact identify of the baby who brought the country over this milestone won’t be known for a month or so as the National Census Institute (INEC) tallies its data.

The daily La Nación chose Eithan Jesús, born at 9:27 pm at the St Vicent de Paul Hospital in Heredia, as its poster child for the five million mark.

Three other babies were born around the same time (9:26, 9:27 and 9:29) in the Northern Zone city of San Carlos; Liberia, Guanacaste; and St Vicent de Paul, the daily reported.
