Mudslides Force 63 Out of Santa Ana Homes

Intense rainfall caused a large mudslide in the western suburb of Santa Ana on Friday, displacing at least eight families.

The mudslide originated just above a section of the upscale suburb known as Salitral and took out a large section of dirt and trees.

President Laura Chinchilla, who lives on the other side of Santa Ana, visited the affected area on Friday. It was one of several stops on a half-day helicopter tour of the country in which she stopped in Parrita, San Ramón and the closed sections of the Inter-American and Caldera highways.

The purpose of her trip was to ensure that emergency crews were equipped with needed resources and that affected families were being attended to.
