COSTA Rican Bridge teams are wrapping up a stint in the XII WorldBridge Olympiad held in Istanbul, Turkey, and should come home nextweek. The Olympiad will host 71 national teams, 43 women’s teams and 29seniors’ teams.Team organizers in Costa Rica are calling the event a great honor forthe Costa Rican players, of whom there is are six on the national team andsix on the seniors’ team, because bridge has been considered an Olympicsport since 1999.Playing for the national team are Steve Allen, Amy Anette, John Goold,John MacGregor, Eduardo Piza, and Pilar Vitoria.Playing for the seniors’ team are Susan Goold, Ria Houtkooper, IanMcClennan, María Antonieta Mellado, Patricia Miranda, and JanWijbernga.To track the team’s results, visit the tournament section on theWeb site for the World Bridge Federation atwww.worldbridge.org/tourn/Istanbul.04/Istanbul.htm.In May 2005 Costa Rica will host bridge players from 33 countries atthe 23rd Central American and Caribbean Bridge Tournament, organizedby the National Association for Recreational Bridge.
