Andean master Américo Yabar will be visiting Costa Rica for the first time Feb. 22 to March 3, offering a series of conferences and workshops on Andean mysticism.
Internationally recognized as a teacher, healer,mystic and visionary poet, Yabar is an expert in the internal and external aspects of the transformation of energy, and is considered a “living bridge” between the indigenous spiritual traditions of the Andes and the Western world.
Yabar grew up among the native people of the Peruvian Andes and spent many years learning from the shamans of the Q’ero, who escaped the Spanish conquest by fleeing to the highest mountains, where they preserved the ancient wisdom of the Incas.
Yabar completed a university education in social psychology and law in Spain, and for the past 30 years has developed and presided over the Association for Mystical Spiritual Development in Europe, in addition to hosting students with the Q’ero in Peru and teaching in the United States, Europe, Africa and Asia.
He will be accompanied on this trip by his son Gayle, who has visited Costa Rica several times to teach young people the “Young Warrior” spiritual traditions of the Andes. Father and son now work together around the world.
Yabar guides students to perceive subtle energy, recognize where their own energy is blocked, “clean” their own and others’ energy bodies, and open to connection with the magic of nature. He is an expert in working with what he calls “salk’a” energy – the wild, untamed energy that comes from the earth and cosmos.
Activities for the public include a free introductory talk Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. at Krama Yoga, 400 meters south of Multiplaza in the western suburb of Escazú; a two-day workshop Feb. 23 to 24, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in Escazú ($120 including lunch and refreshments both days); and a three-day retreat Feb. 29 to March 2 in the Children’s Eternal Rain Forest reserve in north-central Costa Rica ($360 for Ticos and residents, $420 for tourists, including lodging for three nights and all meals).
