Chris Hemsworth Returns to Costa Rica for Beach Vacation

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is vacationing in Costa Rica, where he has been seen surfing, walking the beach and taking photos with fans on the southern Nicoya Peninsula. Hemsworth entered Costa Rica on July 4, with no registered departure as of Tuesday afternoon. His wife, Spanish actress Elsa Pataky, is also with him.

The actor has been seen in Santa Teresa, one of our best-known surf towns, and in nearby beach communities around Montezuma and Cabuya. Photos and video clips circulating on social media show Hemsworth walking near the beach with a surfboard, while several fans have shared images after crossing paths with him.

One of the sightings came at Playa Lajas, in the Montezuma de Cabuya area. Luis Muñoz, a Costa Rican who lives in Florida and was vacationing in the area, said he recognized Hemsworth while both were in the water. Muñoz approached him and asked whether he was the actor who played Thor. Hemsworth smiled and confirmed it.

After they left the water, Muñoz’s daughters and nieces asked for a photo. Hemsworth agreed and also posed with other beachgoers who approached him. Muñoz described the actor as friendly and down to earth, and said he appeared to be traveling with his wife and children. Hemsworth is best known for playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a role that made him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable action stars. He has also starred in Extraction, Rush, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga and Men in Black: International.

The Costa Rica visit fits Hemsworth’s public image as an actor closely tied to surfing, fitness and outdoor travel. He and Pataky live with their children in Byron Bay, Australia, another beach community known for surf culture and a slower pace away from major cities. This is not Hemsworth’s first visit to Costa Rica. He has been photographed here on previous trips, including earlier visits with Pataky and their family. In past comments, Pataky said they liked Costa Rica because of the privacy they found here.

Santa Teresa and the wider Nicoya Peninsula have become regular stops for international visitors looking for surf, beaches and relative privacy. The area has also drawn celebrities over the years, helped by its luxury villas, wellness tourism, restaurants and remote coastline. Hemsworth has not publicly posted about the current Costa Rica trip on his own social media accounts as of publication. The latest sightings have instead come from residents, visitors and fans who ran into him along the coast.
