Top Internet streaming services provider expands Costa Rica operations

Akamai, a leading Internet hosting and streaming services provider, this week announced the opening of a new Support and Customer Service Center in Escazú, southwest of the capital.

Costa Rica’s facilities are the company’s main headquarters for customer support in Latin America.

Akamai opened operations in Costa Rica in 2012, and this week they moved to a new 10,800-square-foot location to accommodate its expanding employee base in San José.

The new expanded facilities will become the company’s main Spanish-language facility in Latin America.

“Our studies show that the highest growth rates of Internet use come from this region. Therefore we’re increasing our efforts, our partnerships and we’re expanding our operations to support this market in various segments,” said Robert Hughes, president of global operations.

The Costa Rican support center will offer services to clients across the region mainly in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

Akamai technologies and services have been used for online streaming of big events such as the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup, while companies like Netflix, Nintendo, Sony, Adobe, Facebook, Yahoo and MTV also use them for content delivery at their websites.
