Costa Rican President Carlos Alvarado offered a message of support to the United States following Saturday morning’s mass shooting that left 20 people dead and many more injured.

“We express our condolences to the United States in the face of the unfortunate events in El Paso, Texas,” he Tweeted. “In times when hate, division and violence emerge, our response must be the search for peace.”

Hours later, a second gunman killed nine people and injured dozens in Dayton, Ohio.

While this news doesn’t directly affect Costa Rica, many Tico Times readers (and our staff) either live in or have ties to the United States.

From our office in San José, we wish all of you a safe and peaceful Sunday.
