Vinci buys more than 40 percent share of Costa Rica’s two main airports

The French company Vinci Airports bought Airports Worldwide, a portfolio with shares in 12 facilities including Costa Rica’s two most important airports.

Vinci purchased 48.75 percent of the Juan Santamaría International airport, located just outside San José in Alajuela, and 45 percent of the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, in the northwestern province of Guanacaste, the company said in a statement.

“With the main airports of Costa Rica, a tourism destination that’s becoming more and more popular, Vinci Airports strengthens its position in Latin America, where it manages the airports of Santiago (Chile), Salvador (Brazil) and six airports in the Dominican Republic, including Santo Domingo,” the statement read.

The portfolio, whose purchase price was not revealed, also includes the Belfast International Airport in Northern Ireland and Skavsta Airport, near Stockholm, Sweden.

It also includes the Orlando-Sanford Airport concession in Florida and four other airports in the United States: Hollywood Burbank Airport and Ontario International Airport in California, and Macon Downtown Airport and Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Georgia.
