Costa Rica Allows 3rd Covid Vaccine Dose Only 4 Months after 2nd Dose

Up and until now you had to a wait for at least 5 months before getting the 3rd vaccine dose against Covid 19. However, in another unexpected agreement made with National Commission of Vaccination and Epidemiology, it was announced that, starting immediately, the minimum wait time between getting the 2nd vaccine shot and the 3rd booster shot has been reduced to now only 4 months.

According to the Costa Rica Ministry of Health, a booster shot can be given to anyone older than 12 years of age and who has already passed the allotted amount of time between the second and third doses.

It was stated that this action was authorized after taking into account the epidemiological situation, the availability of doses, as well as the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

In the case of those in Costa Rica under 18 years of age, the Pfizer vaccine will be used. For those over 18 years of age, both Pfizer and Moderna will be given.

At the same time, it was approved to give a 3rd vaccination dose to those in the migrant community who residing in the country but who’s status is uncertain

Also, according to the Commission it agreed that there should be no wait time between the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines and that they can be given concurrently.

The CCSS authorities also advised everyone to verify their vaccination schedules and centers in their communities and to be on the look out for all official communications from the health centers.
