VIDEO: National Theater celebrates 117 years with daylong performances

After four months of rigorous planning, the National Theater finally unleashed its birthday fiesta on San José, and thousand showed up to celebrate. The daylong event started at 8:30 a.m. with a parade down Second Avenue, followed by concerts in the Plaza de la Cultura, poetry readings inside the theater, and even more music in the foyer. While 117 years doesn’t hold any special significance, Managing Director Inés Revuelta Sánchez hoped to begin her tenure by inviting the public to free, large-scale event. Here’s a taste of what it was like to attend.
