Costa Rica seizes more than a ton of cocaine on Caribbean coast
Late Sunday evening, the Costa Rican Coast Guard and Judicial Investigation Police in Limón captured a boat off the Caribbean coast carrying more than 2,800 pounds of cocaine.
The 200-horsepower vessel was out at sea when the Coast Guard, acting on an anonymous tip, intercepted it. The drug boat fled and its crew beached it in Playa Negra, Limón, abandoning 45 packages of cocaine. There were no arrests.
Last week, the Public Security Ministry reported that police have confiscated 15 tons of cocaine so far in Costa Rica in 2013.
