The Central American country has experienced an alarming increase in homicides between 2012 and 2017, when it reached a level of 12.1 violent deaths per 100,000 citizens, according to the judicial police.
The Security and Drug Trafficking Commission on Monday approved a motion to continue allowing citizens to own three guns, rather than adopting a reform that would have reduced the number to one.
