Central American Games come to a close

Nearly 25,000 people gathered last night at San José’s National Stadium to celebrate the official close of The Central American Games.  Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla officially closed the games with a speech and the announcement that the XI Central American Games in four years will be held in Managua.

Costa Rica came out with a total of 285 medals at the event’s end, falling only behind Guatemala, which claimed 292.  Costa Rica also claimed the second most gold medals with 93, again falling behind Guatemala with an even 100.

The three Tico athletes with the most medals were Alejandro Reyna, in bowling, Tarik Soto, in gymnastics, and Mario Montoya in swimming each claiming seven total medals.
