‘Junior Gong’ Marley to jam in Costa Rica

Jamaican reggae artist Damian “Junior Gong” Marley will perform Nov. 15 at Autódromo La Guácima in Alajuela, northwest of the capital, according to concert producers Mundoloco Producciones, La Productora and Costa Rica Reggae.

Marley is the youngest son of reggae legend Bob Marley and Miss World 1976 Cindy Breakspeare. His nickname, “Junior Gong,” is a tribute to his father, who was known as “Tuff Gong” Marley.

Although Junior Gong has been playing music since the age of 13, his commercial breakthrough came with the 2004 single “Welcome to Jamrock.” The three-time Grammy winner is touring various countries in South America, with Costa Rica the only Central America country on his tour.

Opening bands will include Dread Mar-I and Zona Ganjah of Argentina as well as Costa Rican bands Shel, Johnny Man, Jahricio, Noah and aRNine.

Tickets are on sale at Mundoloco El Chante restaurant and bar, Insomnio, Paranoia and Café Kracovia, all in the eastern San José suburb of San Pedro. Starting Monday, Oct. 10, tickets can be purchased at Arenas stores and online at www.laboleteria.co.cr. Tickets cost ₡30,000 ($60) if purchased prior to Nov. 15 and ₡35,000 ($70) on the day of the show.
