In the first 11 days of March Costa Rica recieves more than 1.2 million doses against Covid 19

Costa Rica this month has already received more than 1.2 million doses against SARS-CoV-2, authorities reported. They includes 120,000 pediatric doses and 63,180 for people over 12 years of age, all from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer/BioNTech.

So far for 2022, Costa Rica has received 4,356,240 doses which comes out to 3,667,640 vaccines for people over 12 years of age and 688,600 doses for children.

“The pace of arrival of pediatric vaccines continues to accelerate, representing 2 out of every 3 doses arriving today. The goal is to receive 360,000 more pediatric vaccines during the remainder of the month. This allows us to intensify the vaccination of children, which is of utmost importance given the development of the school year”, said the Minister of Communication, Agustín Castro Solano.

So far Costa Rica has received 6,945,825 doses from Pfizer/BioNTech of which 943,660 vaccines have come in this year.

Costa Rica has administered a total of over 9.5 million doses as of March 7th. This comes to a total of 82% of the Costa Rican population who have received at least 1 dose, 74.8% have received 2 doses and 28.8% have received their 3rd dose.

Already 206,187 children from 5 to 11 years old have at least one dose and 91,674 children under this age have finished their vaccination schedule.

This equates to the highest vaccination rate in Central America based on the share of the population.

Serious side effects associated with Covid vaccines continue to be exceedingly rare. Covid-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths have fallen sharply over time.
