Ex-world champion boxer Hanna Gabriels gave birth to a daughter at 1:30 p.m. on Monday.
Her publicist told the daily La Nación that the child and mother are in good health at CIMA hospital in Escazú, southwest of the capital. Her husband, Bryan “Tiquito” Vásquez, – also a Costa Rican boxer – accompanied Gabriels in the hospital room. Earlier in the day, the couple posted to Hanna Gabriels Facebook page a photo in the hospital with the caption “Ready to have a baby.”
Gabriels held the World Boxing Organization light-middleweight title until February 2013, when she was knocked out by Dominican fighter Oxandia “La Loba” Castillo. Gabriels became pregnant shortly after the loss. The Tica boxer said she hopes to get in the ring to earn back the championship by the end of the year.
