Ten flights have been cancelled Monday at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), the majority of them due to Hurricane Dorian, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
As the Category 5 storm bears down on the United States mainland, air travel through the country’s southeast has been impacted. Fort Lauderdale International Airport, located 25 miles north of Miami, is among several Florida airports that are suspending operations Monday.
According to FlightAware, the airline with the most Monday cancellations between the U.S. and Costa Rica is Spirit with six. The low-cost airline flies daily between San José (Alajuela) and the Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
Southwest and JetBlue also cancelled Monday flights between SJO and Fort Lauderdale.
Most U.S. airlines are waiving change fees and offering additional flexibility to travelers impacted by Hurricane Dorian. Check with your airline to make changes and for current flight information.
And if you’re stuck in San José for an extra night, consider these day trip options from Costa Rica’s capital city.
