World commemorates 75th anniversary of D-Day

June 6 marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day, part of the Allied invasion of Normandy during World War II.

Today, communities around the world commemorate the thousands of people who lost their lives that day.

While Costa Rica abolished its army in 1948, it fought alongside the Allies in World War II after President Calderón Guardia declared war in December 1941.
