Lawmakers receive $300 raise

Members of the Legislative Assembly will receive a ₡150,000 ($300) raise after the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit challenging the move’s constitutionality, presented by lawmaker Víctor Emilio Granados of the Accessibility Without Exclusion Party.

The move could upset already angry public employees, who received a ₡5,000 ($10) monthly salary increase for the first six months of the year. The $10 raise resulted in thousands of employees protesting on Feb. 15. The matter remains unresolved despite meetings between President Laura Chinchilla and union leaders.
