British Olympian to attend cultural and sports fair

To promote family togetherness, love of sports and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the British Embassy in Costa Rica will host a “Vive Londres, Vive el Deporte” Cultural and Sports Fair Nov. 5 outside the National Stadium in western San José’s La Sabana Park.

British Olympic runner David Moorcroft, who set the world record in the 5,000 meters at the 1982 Bislett Games in Oslo, will be in attendance at the fair and will share his experiences as an Olympian and talk about how to achieve one’s dreams with practice and discipline.

In addition, some of the National Olympic Committee and National Paralympic Committee’s best-known athletes will participate in the fair. Costa Rica’s Olympic athletes will be returning from the 2011 Pan-American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, and can hopefully share their experiences with the audience.

The fair, which will run 9 a.m.-3 p.m., will include tae kwon do and fencing demonstrations, games, activities and food. Musical performances by Sasha Campbell and Kurt Dyer will pay tribute to English bands.

The fair is one of three events leading up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The countdown began with a 2,012-meter recreational race July 27 and will culminate with an arts festival in March 2012.

For more information about the fair, contact the British Embassy at 2258-2025.
