Monteverde celebrates 12th Christmas Fair

Monteverde’s 12th annual Christmas Fair will take place Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Monteverde Friends School.

World-class and nationally recognized artisans, along with local crafters, abound in Monteverde, and the annual Christmas Fair brings them together to set up shop and sell their creations, with 20 percent of the profit going to the historic Monteverde Friends School. Live music, traditional holiday food and activities for the whole family will round out the day.

Nestled in the cloud forest community of Monteverde, in north-central Costa Rica, the Monteverde Friends School was founded 60 years ago by Quakers who left the United States in search of a country and community that supported their peaceful principles. Today, the bilingual school continues to promote the universal values of peace, love and respect to 120 local Costa Rican children as well as descendants from the original Quaker settlers.

This year, the Christmas Fair will coincide with Lead Adventure Media’s Ultra Trail MoonRun 2011, which will welcome some 250 runners from around the country to this mountain town.

The Monteverde Friends School is 300 meters north of the Monteverde Cheese Factory, on the road to the renowned Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve.
