On Wednesday, pedestrians in downtown San José could see display of flowers that had been left outside a building – not because of a tragedy, but because of an election.
Voters motivated by an online call to honor the country’s elections officials left flowers outside the Supreme Elections Tribunal (TSE), across from the Parque Nacional in the heart of the capital.
It appears that leaving flowers on the Tribunal steps was first suggested by the pro-Carlos Alvarado Facebook group Coalición Costa Rica.
“We should be proud as Costa Ricans,” read the post, placed on the page on Wednesday afternoon with the hashtag #DejáUnaFlor (Leave a Flower). “This election involved the work of thousands of people, and we invite you to celebrate them: fiscales (those in charge of the integrity of the voting process), local officials, volunteers, observers and all those who worked this past April 1.”
