On March 8, women around the globe commemorated the fight to achieve the freedom and liberties many now enjoy and the ongoing challenges facing women. The celebration brought many into the streets of their cities to march for women’s rights, and Costa Rica was no exception.

Here’s a glimpse of the march from Costa Rican photographer Roberto Delgado Webb and AFP. For Delgado Webb, it was the first time he attended a Women’s March.

“I’ve worked with women all my life. They’ve been my bosses, work partners, professors, students and now business associates. I’ve never noticed anything that justifies the lack of justice that my equals experience,” he told The Tico Times after the event. “When Daniela, my friend, said that she was making posters for the march, I had to document the effort. When I was there I was really impressed for the commitment. It’s not a joyful day. It’s a struggle. The energy was strong and it was noticeable in all of the people.”
