Canadian dies in fall at Guanacaste Park

Alysa Rotstein, 30, died this week after falling 50 meters while standing too close to a precipice in Rincón de la Vieja National Park in the northwestern Guanacaste province, according to Costa Rica’s Red Cross.

Rotstein, who is from Canada, was taking a photo of a waterfall in the park when she fell off the edge of a cliff, The Red Cross said. She was with four other Canadians and a tour guide at the park when the accident occurred.

According to the Hamilton, Canada-based daily The Spec, Rotstein worked in Toronto, but was in the middle of a week-long vacation in Costa Rica. She arrived in Liberia on Feb. 19 and was staying in Curubande, a village outside the national park.
