Dogs’ protection now guaranteed with new insurance policy

Dogs now can be covered through the latest National Insurance Institute (INS) insurance policies.

The basic plan for“Seguro Canino” (dog insurance) covers dogs in case of an injury or illness. More expensive plans will protect man’s best friend from accidental death and if the dog was stolen (the insurance will even assist in creating ads to help find the dog).

The cost of the insurance depends on the size, breed and age of the dog. The agency also offers a toll free number available 24/7 that provides information on veterinarians, breeders, shelters and dog adoption centers throughout Costa Rica. Prices range from $1,000 to $4,000.

The requisites to purchase dog insurance include a birth certificate, a photocopy of official vaccination schedule, a photocopy of the dog’s medical records and a photograph of the canine. The photo must have been taken within the last seven days, and it should indicate the name and age of the dog and the date the photo was taken.
