Yankees honor legend Mariano Rivera by bringing Major League Baseball to Panama for first time since 1947

Panamanian Mariano Rivera, retired player of New York Yankees, throws the ball during an exhibition game in Panama City, on Saturday. Panama got a taste of Major League Baseball for the first time since 1947 when the New York Yankees played the Miami Marlins in an exhibition in March. The Marlins shut out the Yankees, 5-0, in the first game of the “Legend Series” Panama City’s Rod Carew Stadium — following a ceremony honoring the legacy of newly-retired Yankees great and Panama native Mariano Rivera, the game’s all-time saves leader. The Yankees closed out the two-game series the next night by crushing the Marlins, 7-0. AFP/Rodrigo ARANGUA
