190,000 motorists fail to pay marchamo on time

The deadline to pay the year-end auto registration fee and obligatory insurance known as the “marchamo” ended Monday at midnight, and some 190,000 drivers failed to pay on time, according to the National Insurance Institute (INS).

A report from INS Wednesday morning indicates that 941,000 motorists paid the marchamo on time, while 11,500 had already paid a ₡47,000 ($94) fine for not meeting the deadline. Those who have not paid yet also will have to pay interest.

Marchamo payments can be made at INS offices, bank branches and websites.

To find out much you owe, see the INS website at: http://marchamo.ins-cr.com/Marchamo/Marchamo/Default.aspx
