Oasis Across the Street In Escazú

The Oasis Coffee Shop and Fusion, a favorite Escazú haunt for those who enjoy healthy, wholesome food, has not closed as rumors might have it. Previously located opposite Apartotel María Alexandra, it has now moved across the road into the hotel. The inside dining room with its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks the swimming pool and lush tropical garden. It has a more formal ambience than the brightly painted, small, funky one at its previous location. In the front of the hotel, the informal, cozy bar seats 16, and the front patio 12. An added advantage for some is that Oasis now has a liquor license. The menu is basically the same as before (TT, April 3, 2009). For updates, visit www.oasiscoffeeshop.blogspot.com.

Maurice McPhail, wife Marietta and daughter Stephanie continue to run this relaxed family affair. Talented chef Mario Bello still concocts his inventive recipes in the kitchen, while Marietta’s luscious desserts now include a larger choice of vegan cakes. The menu offers tempting choices of vegetarian and vegan specialties, including soups, appetizers, salads and sandwiches; however, diners now have a larger choice of chicken and fish dishes, or can add these to most of the vegetarian offerings. The quality of the food and reasonable prices haven’t changed, though those listed now don’t include taxes.

Oasis Coffee Shop and Fusion is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Apartotel María Alexandra, 100 meters north and 100 meters west of Vivero Exótica in San Rafael de Escazú. For information, call 2228-4876.
