Birdwatching Club to Teach Basics of Birding

The Birding Club of Costa Rica invites those who would like to learn about birds, binoculars and birding to an introductory session Jan. 17 at 7 a.m. by the pond on the University of Peace grounds in Ciudad Colón, southwest of San José.

After a coffee and muffin break at 8:30 a.m., club members will help newcomers practice birding on the university’s grounds. Birding guide Patrick O’Donnell will conduct the course. A gourmet barbecue will follow at 11:30 a.m. at a nearby farm.

The cost for the course and barbecue is $20 (cash bar). Bring a notepad, binoculars and good walking shoes. To reserve, contact Lyn Statten by Jan. 10 at 2282-1146 or lynfred@racsa.co.cr.
