"Labor City" is a model for other camps that could follow. Qatar plans to build seven "cities" to house foreign laborers working on the 2022 World Cup and other major infrastructure projects.
"We continue to be troubled by the reports coming out of Qatar related to the World Cup and migrant worker conditions," credit card giant Visa said in a statement.
The new "accommodation centers," as a report by Agence France Presse dubs them, are part of the Qatari government's attempt to upgrade living conditions for the hundreds of thousands of migrants toiling in the tiny, petro-rich kingdom.
