WASHINGTON, D.C. – Two journalists for a local CBS affiliate in the U.S. state of Virginia were shot dead Wednesday during a live broadcast, according to chilling television footage of the incident and their network.
Telenoticias reporter Álvaro Sánchez was attacked by a mob while covering a news story on Monday night in Desamparados, south of Costa Rica's capital. He suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon.
One of the reporters killed, Danilo López, had been receiving threats after he reported on corruption in the area. Authorities were searching the homes of two mayors and one former mayor as part of the investigation.
