A tsunami watch was issued for Hawaii by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, but so far Costa Rica has not issued any warnings for its coast, according to Silvia Chacón, oceanographer and coordinator for the National Tsunami Monitoring System at Costa Rica's National University.
SANTIAGO, Chile – A strong earthquake struck the center of Chile on Wednesday, local seismologists said, triggering a tsunami alert along the entire coastline and sparking panic and shaking buildings in the capital.
A new app developed by University of Costa Rica’s National Seismological Network provides confirmed magnitude, depth and location information about earthquakes. The app is available for download at Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
Possible abnormal behavior that could indicate imminent earthquakes includes chickens flying atop trees, fish leaping out of water or toads moving in a group.
KATHMANDU, Nepal – A new earthquake and powerful aftershocks killed dozens of people and brought fresh terror to a traumatized Nepal on Tuesday as buildings already damaged in a monster quake last month came tumbling down.
Besides the capital, people also reported feeling the quake in Alajuela, Heredia, Playas del Coco and various parts of Puntarenas. No damages or injuries were reported.
