Costa Rica will not receive a pair of cruise ships that planned stops in the Pacific city of Puntarenas as their operators adjust itineraries amid the coronavirus epidemic.
The most recent cruise ship season at the Caribbean port of Limón officially ended Friday with a total of 107 cruise ship arrivals from October to March, a nearly 60 percent increase over the previous season, the Atlantic Port Authority's (JAPDEVA) reported.
Costa Rica's Caribbean port of Limón attracted nearly 60 cruise ships in the first few months of the season. The government hopes the port's recent designation as a boarding spot will boost the industry.
If Carnival is allowed to dock in Cuba it would be the first time a cruise ship travels between the two countries since they broke off diplomatic relations in 1961.

The cruise ship season began on Costa Rica's Pacific coast last Sunday with the arrival of the Carnival Legend in Puntarenas. At the same time, Tourism Minister Wilhelm von Breymann said his ministry would increase efforts to promote more cruise ship tourism in the country as a way to boost the economy.
