The president of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, announced on Wednesday an effort to strengthen governance in response to a scandal over suspicions of breach of private information that caused several resignations in his cabinet.
The Minister of the Presidency of Costa Rica, VÃctor Morales, denied Monday that the government had violated the private information of the population with a controversial data collection unit.
Crespo said that a technical and legal team of her agency will work during this week with the Presidency to determine if the work of UPAD violated the privacy of citizens.

The Costa Rican government on Friday repealed a decree that had created a Data Analysis Unit, after public criticism questioned its purpose and scope.Â
There are currently more than 87,000 applications for refuge in Costa Rica, of which 80% are from Nicaraguans and 7% are from Venezuelans, according to government data.
