Guatemala's leader made the embassy announcement on Christmas Eve, three days after two-thirds of UN member states – Costa Rica among them – denounced Trump's decision to have the United States recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
The three men were subject to a short trial after pleading guilty to the charges against them, the Public Ministry stated in a press release on Friday.
Police also raided the houses of the former legislators in question, Víctor Hugo Víquez of the National Liberation Party (PLN) and Walter Céspedes of the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC).
