Foreigners can pay for driver’s license directly at Roadway Safety Council offices

The Public Works and Transport Ministry (MOPT) have enabled foreigners to pay driver’s license fees directly in the Roadway Safety Council offices in La Uruca, northwest of San José.

Depending on their immigration status, some temporary or permanent residents were previously unable to pay this fee in the public banking system, as dictated by local requirements.

MOPT authorities also announced that they are working on a unique code called DM (Migration Document) to be used in the electronic systems of every public bank. “This code will allow foreigners to process all fee payments with a valid ID,” Hugo Jiménez, director of Road Safety Education, explained. For more info, call the Road Safety Council at 2206-7773.
