Magnitude-5 earthquake shakes up Costa Rica

A magnitude-5.0 earthquake shook most of the country Tuesday morning, according to the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (Ovsicori).

Ovsicori’s preliminary analysis showed the temblor struck around 10:11 a.m., and its epicenter was located in Porvenir, in San Carlos, 8 km southwest of Ciudad Quesada, in the northern province of Alajuela.

On the social network Twitter, residents from all over the country reported feeling the quake. A powerful tremble was felt throughout the Central Valley, Pérez Zeledón in the Southern Zone and parts of Puntarenas, among other areas.

No damage was reported.
