Catch still good despite weather challenges

If you can dodge the rain, you just might catch some fish. There were a few days of bad weather off the coast of Guanacaste, but when boats made it out they were rewarded with lots of dorado, some sails and a few marlin. There has also been a good bite going on inshore with roosterfish and amberjack creating most of the action. Some patches of red tide have showed up near Witches Rock and hopefully won’t become a bigger problem.

Fishing is also slow around Los Sueños, with dorado about the only thing happening offshore except for a sailfish here and there. There has also been some red tide reported in the area.

Down south, Donald McGuinness had to run more than 40 miles in a bouncy seas to find good water, but he was rewarded for his effort. In two days of fishing, he landed five marlin, lots of dorado and yellowfin tuna and a couple of sails. Inshore, on day three he took a mixed bag of roosters, amberjack, snapper and Bluefin trevally.

The weather is perfect on the Caribbean side for the second leg of the Club Amateur de Pesca Annual Tarpon Tournament. Eddie Brown reports sunny days, flat ocean and lots of fish at the Barra del Colorado river mouth. Cynthia leads the tournament with eight releases and Dr. Mario Saenz is right behind her with seven releases.

The tournament ends Sunday at noon. I will be hooked up live with Captain Eddie Brown Saturday from 8-9 a.m. on Rainforest Radio, 960 AM on your dial or on the web at rainforestradio.com. His boat landed three fish while we broadcast during the first leg of the tournament.
