Video: U2 loves Costa Rica, as Bono gives a lucky Tica fan in Chicago the best concert ever

Bono, lead singer of legendary Irish band U2, last week left an unforgettable impression on a Costa Rican fan who climbed onstage waving a Costa Rican flag during a concert at the United Center in Chicago.

The Tica told Bono her name is Marcela, and on several videos circulating on social media she is seen suddenly appearing as the band played “Mysterious Ways.” The Thursday show is part of U2’s Innocence + Experience 2015 tour.

Bono hugged Marcela and danced with her through the entire song. At song’s end, Marcela told Bono: “Costa Rica loves you.” Bono replied: “And I love Costa Rica. Yes I do. Yes I do.”

Wow.

The singer then recalled a 2013 incident in Costa Rica when his wife Alison “Ali” Hewson was treated for a broken leg at a local hospital. “They looked after us very, very well. … Will you pass on to the people of Costa Rica our great gratitude,” he said.

Bono then told the audience that Costa Rica “is an incredible country, so sophisticated, so civilized, teaching the world a lesson on how to live in harmony and how to be extremely beautiful and not arrogant, just joyful.”

Marcela asked Bono to repeat the popular Tico motto, “¡Costa Rica Pura Vida!” and the singer complied.

The band then resumed the concert with “Angel of Harlem,” and Bono took the girl’s hat and handed her a smartphone with which she broadcast the concert to a live video feed and on the United Center’s Jumbotron.

How cool is that?
