Costa Rican police seized $4.13 million on Tuesday night during an anti-drug operation on the Inter-American Highway, the Public Security Ministry reported. According to reports, the stash of bills was hidden in a spare tire.
At the checkpoint 120 kilometers northwest of the capital, police stopped a pickup truck and upon inspecting it found a large spare tire used for semi-trailers. The size and weight of the tire led cops to believe it was packed with cocaine, so they called in backup from the Drug Control Police, who discovered the cash.
Two men traveling in the vehicle were arrested and the investigation continues.
