Family of Missing British Journalist Makes Plea for Help to Chinchilla

The family of Michael Dixon, a 34-year-old British journalist who went missing last year in Tamarindo, in the northwest province of Guanacaste, started a new petition Monday asking Costa Rican President Laura Chinchilla to take action against the recent wave of attacks on foreign tourists in Costa Rica.

In the request, the Dixon family requests that President Chinchilla formally invite the British Police and Interpol to assist the Costa Rican authorities in the investigation of Dixon’s disappearance – a necessary step for the organizations’ involvement in any foreign case.

On October 18, 2009, Dixon was last seen leaving the Hotel Villas Macondo on Playa Tamarindo. He never returned. The authorities have no clues as to what might have happened, but the Dixon family believes he was the victim of a serious crime.

Those with any information can call 2437-8555 in Costa Rica and 0800 098-8485 in the United Kingdom, or visit www.helpfindmichaeldixon.com.

Dixon is one of 10 tourists from the United States and Europe who have gone missing or been murdered in the past 18 months.
